Welcome to Persona Art Festival!

4-8 May 2011

What is Persona Art Festival?

Persona Art Festival is a unique opportunity for innovative and emerging artists to exhibit their work in a major contemporary art show in London.

The project, directed by A Moving Exhibition curators Antria Pelekanou and Zia Fernandez, will run from 4 to 8 May 2011 at two venues in East London and bring together contemporary artists from around the world working in a range of different media – from painting and sculpture to audio, video and performance art.

Works will be selected by a judging panel consisting of three artist and lecturers and the two directors, with particular attention to artists not represented by a gallery and work produced in new or less frequently showcased media. The chosen entries will feature in a large exhibition at The Rag Factory, just off Brick Lane, while a series of talks and workshops at the 10 Gales Gallery in Bethnal Green will explore artistic practice and provide an opportunity for the public to enjoy hands-on activities. All events will be free.

The public will also vote for their favourite artwork from each of the five categories: painting, drawing and etching; photography, book and print making; sculpture and site-specific installation; film, digital work, audio and video material; performance art. The winner for each category will be awarded a prize at the end of the exhibition.

The initiative’s aim is to foster inspiration and creativity, provide a platform for ground-breaking independent artists and stimulate discussion between practitioners, students and the general public about contemporary art.
